Max the Golden Retriever and his blog were featured on CNN.com yesterday. Sarah Jio wrote an
interesting article for CNN about blogs and why pet owners give their pet a voice in the blogosphere. Max's blog covers his daily ventures to the dog park, his love for tennis balls (many Golden owners can relate to that) and even his "crushes" on Poodles...Max's owner gets a kick out of his blog... "It's a blast," he says. "I was looking for a way of doing something humorous. And I can really see Max in these posts. It's about capturing his energy."
Are people who write blogs in their pet's name crazy?
Jio spoke with Psychologist Larina Kase of Philadelphia who explains the phenomenon of pets having blogs this way... "Pets are part of the family, yet we can't communicate with them about many things, so pet owners may blog about their pets as a way to better understand how their pets think and feel," she says.
And blogging in such a way, Kase says, can help a person connect with other humans, too.
"People bond over shared interests, especially those that they are passionate about. Walking a dog is a great way to meet other dog walkers and people who stop to pet your dog." Blogging, she says, is "21st-century dog walking."
Plus, says Kase, who doesn't want to live vicariously through their pet? "Every pet owner has had a moment when they look at their pet and think, 'I want his life. He eats, naps, goes for a little walk -- what a life.'" She thinks pet blogging might even be an effective way to relieve stress.
You know, I think the Psychologist Laura Case has a point...I know my parents are desperate for my life...I eat Polka Dogs everyday and sleep on the couch all day surrounded by needlepoint pillows and when I feel up to it I bark at them to walk me...not bad...(my parents, Persephone & Gray, don't even know that I'm writing this...they FINALLY went to sleep after a long day at work...work?...suckers...).

Wish I had a Max to do my blog and website. That's one smart pooch.
